Who am I? That is a question I have asked myself many times during my life. Until a few years ago my answer each time was along the lines of ‘I don’t know’, ‘Not good enough’, ‘No one’ … … the list of negatives and self put-downs grew longer each time. I felt as though I had achieved very little and was existing, instead of living.
In 2007 a Cancer scare proved to be the wake up call I needed. It was time to take control, to accept that this was my life and the only one responsible for how I felt, how I showed up in life, how happy I was, how successful I was – was me.
Two quotes spurred me to take action – the first
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” ~ Albert Einstein
If what I was doing wasn’t working – it was time to do something different. First I needed to find a big enough reason for change. Inside I still felt ‘not good enough’, so I looked for something to motivate me. My answer was simple, if I could find a way to rid my life of the Emotional Baggage that was weighing me down, If I could turn my life around, then I could share it with others who were experiencing the same. I could help them to start living their lives with a greater passion and joy.
I read for hours, fell asleep listening to the likes of Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Christopher Howard, I attended seminars across Europe and the USA, I found simple metaphors for life and change. I started writing, speaking and sharing the simple tools I had discovered. Every time I saw the ‘light go on’ in someone eyes, saw the shift in their body language, heard the tone change in their voice … I felt as though I had won the lottery. I had found my passion, my purpose, my life!
Everything that I had experienced in life had led me to this point. For years I had lived believing I had to be the person my parent’s wanted, my teacher’s expected, my employers needed – and now I embraced all that was me and let go of everything else.
The second quote that inspired me was this …
Every morning you are handed 24 golden hours. They are one of the few things in this world that you get free of charge. If you had all the money in the world, you couldn't buy an extra hour. What will you do with this priceless treasure?
This is just a tiny insight to who I am - Like everyone I am complex - I love the journey of discovery.
